A unique, daring Monk. The nose is distinctive, with lots of smoked meat, bitter botanicals, ginseng and dried herbs. It’s full of mezcal-like smokiness. On the palate this is not fruity at all, but structured, with compact, stemmy tannins making it slightly rustic. Medium-length finish. Try from 2027.
Arresting floral aromas of pepper funk with watermelon, pomegranates and rose hips. Crushed flowers, too. Delicate and fragile with subtle reduction that makes it even more seductive and provocative. Ethereal and tense at the same time on the palate, showing very little heft. Chalky, firm tannins grip the finish, giving a dusty feel to the fruit. Super delicious now, but better in one or two more years.
